Coming soon…

We have some new stuff that is coming soon!

5 Genesis Games

Recently I decided to reorganize my game collection and make it easier to find the hardware and software so I could go back and play some “old” stuff.  There is nothing like seeing your old friends again and remember the good times you had (Oh Revenge Of Shinobi and Goof Troop, how I miss you!!).  Even with the great supply of “Retro” collections and Virtual Console downloads there are many games that will never see the light.  After all how many people besides me want to play old semi obscure NES games like Battle of Olympus, The Magic of Scheherazade or Vice Project Doom?  I also find myself saying “hey ever play the game…” and I get blank looks.  Since money is always tight many great, but lesser know games get left behind in each platform and I wanted to give you a few that are still worth playing.  There are lots of options for how you can play these games today but I won’t get into that….So without delay I’m starting with 5 games many of you may have missed, but need to play.  For me each of these games has a special place in my heart.  I also know that you may look at these games and think that I’ve gone off the deep end Continue Reading »

What’s Yavn Playing 1/26/07

It’s been a very busy few weeks of game playing in the Yavn Household!  With a bit of extra time I’ve been busy and finally crossed the 4K point level for Live.  On my quest to finish more games I finally finished Tomb Raider and went back to Ghost Recon and Ridge Racer 6.  1.  Gears Of War (360) – What else do you need to know, this THE game of 2006.  I’m now in the 4th mission and hope to beat the game (on casual) but next week. Tetris Rant!

After posting my all time favorite games I saw a post on another site making fun of my list and saying all the games were “old.” Now don’t get me wrong I love lots of new games and think they are awesome, but my all time favorites are a different story. You see for me there is a huge different from a great game and an all time favorite. For the most part the main difference is wanting to play the game again and again. I find that the best games are still fun long after their platform has come and gone.

For me Tetris is #1. I think by now just about everyone has played some version or another of this puzzle game. This is a game that is in no way about graphics or sound, its pure gameplay. And that’s why it’s still fun and timeless. Sure systems can run games a billion times more complex then Tetris, but it does not matter, the core gameplay is simple yet complex. How many of you have played long sessions only to see the shapes when your sleep? What abut humming that silly Russian tune? Continue Reading »

What’s Yavn Playing Now 1/2/07

Well the holidays have come and game and gone, and most of the major releases are out. January usually has a few gems (Wario Ware Wii anyone?) but for the most part we are now in for the long winter game drought. But don’t despair, now is the perfect time to catch up on all the cool stuff you missed. This is especially true for the PS2 and original X-box. Definitely take advantage of the great budget games as well as all the good stuff traded in for Wiis & PS3s.

So here’s list, fresh with some new holiday additions: Continue Reading »

HD Anxiety

So I’ve finally entered the modern age and done the whole HD TV thing.  Now I need to give you a bit of history on how we got to this point.

When I finished Aladdin for Sega Genesis I was given my first project bonus!  Now at this time of my life money was tight and I was still doing the living from check to check things (apartments cost a lot and despite what you may read game designers are not exactly paid big bucks).  It was time to buy myself a TV!  The old hand me down from my parents was growing old and I was ready for a “Big Screen”!  Two of my buddies has bough the same set, a Panasonic® 27” Flat Screen (flat as in not curved, but still a bulky tube TV).  So off I went to pick one up, and guess what… Continue Reading »

Zelda Wii

Anyone else playing Zelda yet? I’m really enjoying the game despite the slow start. Actually all of the 3D Zelda game have started off slow also.

So how does this game rank with the others? I’m still a fan of the original and the awesome SNES version (play it on the GBA is you missed it). I do like it better the Wind for the GC and both N64 games.
